SARAWAK

Sarawakian,

  I think, we need to open up the mind of peoples outside Sarawak about what we have here. This is not the land of Iban only. We must show them  that this is the land of multi-racial people of Sarawak. This is not the land of primitive peoples who live in traditional way with “cawat” and  live in the jungle. We must show them  that we are urban and develop as what they are (especially in peninsular Malaysia). Yet we still promote our traditional costumes as our tourism product. The national media only focuses on traditional Sarawak, rainforest and wildlife. Stop it. Stop focusing only on that particular segment of Sarawak. We have more than that. Open their mind. They are our potential tourist.

 

  Put more aggressive effort in promoting Sarawak tourism industry. When people talks about Indonesia, they might think about Bali. When people talks about Thailand, they might think about Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket etc. When people talks about Malaysia, do they think about Sarawak? We have to make sure the answer is “YES”.

 

  In Kedah, they had introduced every single attraction in Langkawi. So no wonder why we know about Makam Mahsuri, Langkawi Cable Car, Dataran Helang, Dayang Bunting@Maiden Lake and many more. But what peoples know about attraction in Sarawak?  They will take times to answer it. What should we do to handle this? The answer is, aggressive promotion. Promote every single attraction that we have.
